Anticipation was high as the Union Budget for 2025 was unveiled on February 1. With expectations soaring, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her eighth budget, packed with measures designed to fuel economic progress and reinforce public confidence.

Major Announcements in Union Budget 2025
Income Tax Exemption for Salaries Up to Rs 12 Lakh: Individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually will no longer need to pay income tax, providing relief to middle-class citizens.
Increase in Capital Expenditure: The country's capital expenditure for FY2025-26 is now projected at Rs 11.21 lakh crore, slightly up from Rs 11.11 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year.
Boost for Bihar’s Makhana Industry: A dedicated Makhana Board will be set up in Bihar to enhance production, processing, and marketing opportunities for farmers in the region.
Employment Generation Program: The government has outlined plans to create 22 lakh new jobs by improving efficiency in the footwear and leather industries.
UDAN Scheme Expansion: The revamped UDAN initiative aims to connect 120 new destinations, targeting 4 crore air passengers in the next ten years.
Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: A strategic plan to develop 100 agricultural districts, benefiting approximately 1.7 crore farmers across the country.
Encouraging Research and Innovation: A budget of Rs 20,000 crore has been designated to promote private-sector-led research and innovation efforts.
PM Research Fellowship Program: The initiative will grant 10,000 fellowships for advanced technological research at premier institutions such as IITs and IISc.
Tax Benefits for Electronics and Electric Vehicles: Exemptions have been introduced for key components, including open-cell LED/LCD TV panels, textile looms, and lithium-ion battery equipment used in mobile phones and electric vehicles.
Support for the Shipbuilding Sector: A 10-year exemption on materials required for shipbuilding and shipbreaking has been announced. The government has also extended support for the export of railway goods that require repair.
